With its vast amount of different signs and symptoms as well as how to treat it, autism stirs up a lot of questions but little answers. So here’s how you can do your part to raise awareness on this disorder
SHARE THE PUZZLE
The most recognizable symbol of autism awareness is the Puzzle Ribbon. Sharing the ribbon (whether on your backpack, car, refrigerator or social media) is an easy way to stand with people on the autism spectrum, and provide education and advocacy for those who may not know quite as much about people with autism.
PARTICIPATE IN A WALK
There are plenty of walks around the country throughout the year. If you can participate in one for Autism awareness this month, great! There is a Superhero walk happening concurrently with Publika Wheelie Sunday on April 9 (Sunday). Wear your favourite superhero costume to support the cause.
Venue: The Square, Publika | Time : 7 am – 10 am
SPEND TIME WITH SOMEONE WITH AUTISM
The best way to begin to understand autism is to interact with someone who is affected by it. Giving someone you know with autism support and consideration is a great way to celebrate the month and spread awareness and advocacy. To find out more, head to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) website.
HELP A LOCAL CAUSE
In addition to helping many charitable organizations, The Good Shop Malaysia is a collaboration between MyInitium and Malaysian Social Entrepreneurs who are retailing for a cause. And this month The Good Shop will be selling items such as paintings and clothes from NASOM at Publika (Level G2 Red Zone) from now till April 9 in support of Autism Month.
