With the aim of promoting social entrepreneurs (socents) in the Malaysian retail scene, The Good Shop made its debut in May at Sunway Pyramid with only 5 socents. Now, just a few months later – and testament to its success – The Good Shop represents 13 – and offers a wide array of retail brands and myriad exclusive products.

The founders of The Good Shop, and a number of the Socents, are, coincidentally, former Convent school girls. “I myself am from Convent Bukit Nanas from the 1990s. We have another CBNer from the 80s, and another from the 60s,” says Eena Khalil, Director of MyInitium, operational partner of The Good Shop. “We were from Convents that were about building girls in mind and spirit, and we are now working together at The Good Shop, in the spirit of improving the community,” she adds.

Spanning several generations, encompassing many ethnic backgrounds, and hailing from various locations, it is indeed this simplicity of virtue and the steadfastness of duty  that unites the disparate participants in their mission of mercy – while also expanding retail offerings for discerning Malaysian shoppers.

Targetting to have a permanent home by 2017, The Good Shop currently operates on a ‘pop-up shop’ basis around the Klang Valley in order to increase awareness of the participating social entrepreneurs. This month, The Good Shop will be open at Avenue K.

Cheshire Home Selangor, Simply Cookies, The Batik Boutique, Tihara, NASOM, Earth Heir, AMAZE, SD28 and Heart Treasures are just a few of those partnering with The Good Shop to champion social, environmental and cultural causes.

The Good Shop retails homeware items, apparel and fashion accessories, as well as books and beverages. From gorgeous, hand-woven Sarawakian songket, to quirky bags made from seatbelts; from bamboo fabric clothing to books for children – consumers are spoilt for choice with the dazzling array of products culled from alternative sources. They are not only breathtakingly beautiful, but also innovative, inspiring and most importantly, made with love.

Also available are corporate gift services for festive occasions, and custom-made bulk orders for events. The Good Shop also offers online shopping for those unable to visit the actual store. So whether in person or online, have a good shop at The Good Shop!
